Anniversary Aspen Magic, Mountain Lakes, and a Blue Hour Glow-Up | Aaron & Tanya
Posted On | September 27, 2024
Anniversary sessions have this unique kind of energy – there’s no pressure, no timeline to follow (well, besides the sun), and no distractions. Just two people, a mountain adventure, and all the quiet understanding that comes from a year of marriage. Aaron and Tanya’s session in Breckenridge felt exactly like that. Intentional. Joyful. Golden as heck.

We kicked things off along Boreas Pass, which was already glowing with those peak fall colors. We wandered slowly through the trees, letting the yellow leaves swirl around us and catching those candid, “we forgot the camera was here” kind of moments. These two were playful and completely in sync—half the time they were whispering jokes to each other and the other half, just stopping to soak it all in.
Once we’d had our fill of golden aspens (or, let’s be honest, almost – you never really get enough), we made the drive up toward Blue Lakes. The traffic gods were kind, and we landed at the lake with enough time for a laid-back picnic and portraits along the shoreline. The light was soft and warm, and the water had that surreal, glassy calm that makes you feel like you’re in a painting.
As the sun started to dip, we packed up and hiked to the overlook. It’s a short but steady climb, and the reward at the top is worth every step. The mountains opened up around us, painted in layers of deep blue and purple as twilight took over. Blue hour always sneaks up, but it never disappoints. We caught those last bits of light, wrapped in wind and alpine air, and let the quiet settle in around us while we photographed the two of them just being them – a little more settled, a little more seasoned, and still wildly in love.
This wasn’t just a portrait session. It was a celebration of what their first year together looked like – full of laughter, hikes, picnics, late-night chats, and showing up for each other in all the ways that matter. No big production, no timeline pressure – just a golden hour adventure that ended with mountain views and the kind of calm that only comes when you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
