Jackie + Collin’s Intimate Backyard Wedding | Boulder, CO

Jackie and Collin’s intimate backyard wedding in Boulder, Colorado was absolutely 100% them. I loved how they put their own twist on traditional wedding details and incorporated them in a way that felt authentic to them.

Their wedding venue was at a private home in Boulder, Colorado. This space was important to them because it was the home of the family that Jackie had nannied for for many years. When Jackie told me it was at a house in Boulder, I thought “oh, that’s awesome!” and figured it was on some open space with just a big field. But when I got there, it was so much more than that! The house was stunning. The backyard was made up of rolling green grass and was surrounded by trees. Scattered throughout the backyard were beautiful gardens of flowers and a waterfall feature that was the backdrop to their ceremony.

Next to the ceremony site there was a big open field where they set up long tables where all their family and friends could gather after their I do’s and just celebrate their love and marriage. Collin’s dad hand-built the structure that they danced all night long under. The poles were wrapped in greenery and white cloth draped across the top. They finished it off with marquee lights that glowed in the night sky as the band played and they dance the night away under the stars.

One of Jackie and Collin’s favorite things to do on the weekend is walk to a local brewery with their pup, Archer, listen to live music and enjoy a beer together. They brought their love of beer into their wedding by serving their favorite seasonal beer to their guests. The bohemian arch that they got married under was covered with an array of garden flowers with strands of real hops peeking through.

These two absolutely love to ride motorcycles! One of the fun moments of the day was when Jackie surprised everyone by riding up to the ceremony in the Sidecar of a motorcycle next to her dad. We all laughed because after the bridesmaid, groomsman, flower girls and ring bearer walked down the aisle, there were a few minutes to wait while Jackie got the queue to start riding down on the motorcycle. While everyone was waiting there looking at where Jackie was supposed to be walking from, a few jokes were made about the “runaway bride” and “cold feet”. A minute or two passed and then all of a sudden everyone gave a cheer when Jackie and her dad came riding around the ceremony site on the motorcycle, hopped out and then finished off their walk down the aisle on foot.

Every single minute of their day was perfectly them. Their ceremony was short and sweet, but such a beautiful display of their love and casual vibe as some guests sat on blankets in the lawn to watch their I do’s. And all of the vendors that they included in their day were just people that they loved and knew. I knew Jackie from high school, so it was such an honor to reconnect years later and be the one to capture their day. Collin’s dad owns U-Turn BBQ in Lafayette and catered the most freekin’ delicious BBQ dinner for the wedding. And then for their dessert, instead of doing a traditional cake, which Collin hates, they decided to have chocolate. Collin’s sister who is a chocolatier, made four giant (think 3 feet by 3 feet!) chocolate bars in the most decadent flavors. Instead of cutting the cake, Jackie and Collin took hammers and broke up all the chocolate into chunks for guests to eat. But they still didn’t miss the chance to feed each other a piece of chocolate afterwards!
