There’s something undeniably magical about a rainy elopement in Colorado, where misty skies and gentle summer showers create a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. Nestled in the breathtaking wilderness of Summit County, Megan and Eddie embraced the unexpected downpour, turning their intimate celebration into a cinematic love story. With glistening raindrops, vivid views, and the scent of pine in the air, their vows felt even more special against the dramatic mountain backdrop.

Their Proposal

Megan and Eddie have one of the sweetest proposal stories. Eddie wanted to propose in the woods where they often took long walks together, a place that felt like home to them. Wanting to make the moment extra special, he strung up Christmas lights to form a glowing arch among the trees. It was the perfect, quiet place to ask one of the most important questions of his life.

But things didn’t go exactly as planned. Megan got off work later than expected that night, and by the time she met up with Eddie, it was dark outside and pouring rain. Most people would have postponed, but not Eddie. Instead, he asked Megan to trust him and come along for an adventure. With lantern in hand and an umbrella shielding them from the rain, they made their way through the woods together. When they reached the glowing arch, rain still coming down around them, Eddie dropped to one knee and asked Megan to marry him. It was messy, unexpected, and absolutely perfect.

Rain and unpredictable weather seem to follow these two, but not in a way that feels unlucky. Instead, it’s as if the rain chooses them to turn ordinary moments into magical ones. Their elopement day was no different.

We started the day with the hope of dry skies, but Colorado had other plans this June summer day. The weather flipped back and forth between light showers, bursts of sunshine, and sudden hailstorms. But Megan and Eddie never once let it dampen their spirits. If anything, they embraced it. Plans shifted for their Breckenridge elopement, locations changed on the fly, and instead of the mountain views they had originally envisioned, we found ourselves chasing pockets of clear sky wherever we could.

After their small ceremony with family at Sapphire Point, we headed to a nearby lake where we hiked up to a stunning mountain valley view. As Megan and Eddie were soaking up the views, a squall of hail quickly came down – soaking us from head to toe. It was at this point we stopped for an emergency coffee break just to warm up. In that moment, it was clear—this day wasn’t about the weather or the logistics. It was about them, about soaking in every second together, no matter what the sky decided to do.

As the sun set, we thought the adventure was winding down, but the universe had one more surprise in store as we headed to our second backup location. The rain let up just in time for Megan and Eddie to take one last moment together under the night sky on Boreas Pass. The town of Breckenridge glowed in the distance, its lights bouncing off the low-hanging clouds. Megan’s dress was soaked through, her hair wild from the wind, but none of it mattered. They had their first dance in the light of their headlights as the rain continued to mist around them, wrapped up in each other as if the rest of the world had disappeared.

And that’s how it should be. No stress, no second-guessing. Just taking the day as it comes, even if it means throwing your soaked wedding dress into a trash bag at the end of the night. Megan and Eddie are proof that when you embrace the unexpected, the day can turn out even better than you ever imagined.

Larissa photographed our wedding this past June and we couldn’t imagine working with anyone else. From the start, Larissa was amazing to work with and helped with so many little details, from recommending vendors to picking out locations to helping us pack. Being from out of state, it was so essential to have someone local to work with who had so much knowledge and expertise to share so we could plan the perfect day. She relieved so much stress and was just so so helpful throughout the entire planning process. Then, on the day itself, her relaxed and bubbly attitude just made the whole day so easy ! We have never had professional photos taken and were worried it would be awkward and stressful, but Larissa made it such a fun experience. And then the photos themselves were so gorgeous !!! We feel so lucky to have worked with her and will treasure these photos forever. We are already hoping to visit Colorado again for a future anniversary and hopefully have her photograph another adventure.
