The Best Sunset In The Rocky Mountains | Victoria & Kacey

Posted On | November 22, 2022

We’ve seen a lot of sunsets. As Boulder elopement photographers, it’s kind of our thing—chasing golden light across alpine lakes and mountain ridgelines. But every once in a while, there’s a sunset that feels like it was tailor-made for the people standing in front of it. That’s exactly what happened with Victoria and Kacey.

Kacey was Victoria’s statistics tutor in grad school where they met for the first time. Victoria then came to the U.S. from their home country of Taiwan to continue her studies – but her and Kacey stayed in touch and would meet up whenever she returned home. Eventually, Victoria asked Kacey to move to the U.S. with her and in November they decided to officially get married.

Their elopement came together in just six weeks, but you’d never guess that by how intentional and full their day felt. Their elopement day was cozy, calm, and honestly kind of perfect. They got ready in a friend’s house with Victoria’s daughter nearby before setting off for the foothills.

Their daughter and local friends joined Victoria and Kacey for a sweet and short ceremony at Lost Gulch Overlook. We love when people keep the “ceremony” casual – it opens up space for a more personal experience later in the day. And that’s exactly what we had planned.

And then came the magic: sunset at Lost Gulch Overlook, one of the most iconic (and wildly photogenic) spots in Boulder. The air was warm for November. The light was fire. And the views? Pure Rocky Mountain magic. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop talking and just feel things. We ended the night with lantern photos—those dreamy, glowing portraits that somehow feel like a quiet celebration all on their own.

Elopements don’t have to be booked a year in advance. They don’t need 14 vendors or a Pinterest board that’s older than your relationship. Sometimes all it takes is the right person, the right place, and a little bit of courage to say “let’s just do this.”

If you’re thinking about eloping in Boulder or planning something spontaneous (or maybe you just want the best sunset the Rocky Mountains can offer), we’ll be here. Probably somewhere in the mountains, camera in hand, chasing that golden light with people who are all in – just like Victoria and Kacey.

I am very grateful to have Larissa as my photographer for my elopement. I am not local but end up choosing Colorado for my big day. I definitely need guidance during my planning, and I would say it was the best decision ever to have her and I will definitely hire her again for my family photos in the future. First, I love We, The Light Photography’s style. It is very clean, elegant, and graceful. They also provide tons of useful information on the website for you to complete your research before you make your decision.
I worked with Larissa from the 1st consultation video chat until the end. Larissa is such a local expert who knows the locations, the weather, the road condition, the best timing for what type of photos and guides us step-by-step to set up our plan. She is super sweet, playful, and always there to help whenever you need her.
Due to the snowstorm, we changed our plan at the last minute, but she works promptly to accommodate our concern and modify the plan for us within 30 min. I really appreciate her patience and always open to discuss any questions I have. Her questionnaire prior to the photo session to confirm the style and small details about the photos are helpful as well. Larissa remembered all requests that I hoped to achieve and implemented all of them on that day. I was very amazed by her service and if you haven’t made your decision yet, I would say YES, DEFINITELY GO FOR WE, THE LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY. Their 5- star service will make you the best couple on this most important day in your life.
