A Tiny House Elopement, PB&Js, and a Hidden Ceremony | Kaitlyn & Pat

Posted On | August 24, 2020

Kaitlyn and Pat’s tiny house elopement was 100% them – laid-back, deeply personal, and full of quiet magic. They rented the cutest tiny cabin tucked away in the woods near Brainard Lake, a hidden gem they discovered on a previous trip to Boulder, Colorado. With mountain views peeking through the trees and nature all around, it was the perfect place to slow down and start their day together.

After getting ready outside – yes, Kaitlyn literally put her makeup on at the picnic table outside in the mountain air – they shared a sweet and emotional first look among the trees. The cabin’s owner had told them about a private trail on the property, and just a short walk up that trail brought us to a secret lookout with panoramic views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It was breathtaking. There, with nothing but the mountains and sky as their witnesses, Kaitlyn and Pat exchanged personal vows and rings in a ceremony that felt both spontaneous and sacred.

After their simple ceremony, they FaceTimed their family to share the joyful news: they were officially married! But in true Kaitlyn and Pat fashion, the next thing they did was pull out a couple of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and enjoy a quiet moment together, just the two of them. No fuss, no rush – just the comfort of being side by side in the middle of the forest.

With full hearts and full bellies, we made our way to Brainard Lake to wrap up the evening with champagne, exploring, and soaking in the final light of the day. The stillness of the lake and the warm sunset reflecting off the water created one of those moments you just want to freeze in time.

Kaitlyn and Pat’s story started in high school, though they didn’t go on their first date until six years later – at Bonnaroo Music Festival, no less. Kaitlyn describes their relationship as “being best friends,” and honestly, you can feel that energy in everything they do. Whether they’re road-tripping across the country, camping, catching live music, or hanging out at home with their cats Kona and Ezra, these two just get each other.

As Boulder elopement photographers, we live for days like this – intentional, soulful, and rooted in the wild beauty of Colorado. Thank you, Kaitlyn and Pat, for letting us witness your tiny house elopement. That PB&J moment? #RelationshipGoals forever. Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, and whatever hidden trail you find next.
