PB&J & Pizza Pies: The Most Delightfully Quirky Pi Day Elopement | DJ & Stephanie

Posted On | March 14, 2025

If you’re going to plan your wedding day around math, you may as well do it in style. DJ and Steph chose March 14th—Pi Day—for their Estes Park elopement, and they leaned into the theme with pancakes, pizza pie, Crumbl cookies, and vows that included a reading of “Pie Love You.” Their day was fun, heartfelt, and a little wild, thanks to Colorado’s ever-unpredictable spring weather. Snow, freezing wind, and a last-minute change of plans couldn’t stop them. If anything, the chaos only made it more memorable.

The morning started slowly, the way all good days should. Coffee in hand, pancakes on the skillet, and the kind of quiet joy that comes with knowing something big is about to happen.

When it came time for their first look, emotions ran high. They each took a deep breath before seeing one another, and when they did, the mix of tears and laughter spoke louder than words ever could. That’s the kind of love these two share—deep, playful, and impossible to miss. In true DJ + Steph fashion, they even fit in a round of mini disc golf before slipping into their wedding attire. A quick FaceTime with their parents made the moment even sweeter—family may not have been in Colorado with them, but they were never far away.

They held their ceremony at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park just as planned, surrounded by swirling snow and winds that felt determined to crash the party. Their daughter acted as their officiant, an important job for such an important day. The gusts had Steph’s hair flying and DJ gripping the vows before they blew across the lake, but nothing could shake the joy of that moment. They read “Pie Love You,” exchanged rings with frozen fingers, and sealed it all with a PB&J unity ceremony—because even in the middle of a snowstorm, who doesn’t love a good sandwich?

Originally, the plan was to hike up to an alpine lake after the ceremony, but with snow piling up and the wind howling, we called an audible. Instead, we wandered through other parts of the park, stopping for portraits along the way. Sprague Lake gave us serene winter scenes, and later at 3M Curve we found sweeping mountain views dusted in snow. Cheeks were pink, hands were numb, but we all laughed through every minute of it. Their day wasn’t what they first envisioned—it was better, a story they’ll tell with a grin for the rest of their lives.

By evening, everyone’s priority was warming up and eating good food. We headed into Estes Park for dinner at Antonio’s Pizza, embracing the “pie” theme all the way. And because no Pi Day is complete without dessert, they topped it off with their favorite Crumbl cookies.

Before the night ended, we stepped outside for star photos—a chance to catch our breath under the wide Colorado sky. It was quiet, peaceful, and the perfect closing chapter to their wild, wonderful day.

From a late-night Waffle House first date, to inside jokes that involve pretending to tranquillize each other in public, DJ and Steph have built their relationship on humor and heart. Their elopement carried that same energy. It wasn’t about the weather or the perfect hike or the logistics. It was about being fully themselves, on Pi Day, with plenty of pie and more love than the wind could ever blow away.
