This Silverton Elopement Had Trains, Lakes, and the Northern Lights | Chelsea & Zach
Posted On | September 12, 2025
Chelsea and Zach’s Silverton elopement was a two-day adventure that perfectly reflected their love for the outdoors and the joy they find in each other’s company. These two met in the high-paced chaos of the ER, where they learned to rely on each other in ways only first responders can. Their first date was a hiking trip with one of their dogs, a memory they treasure even more now that their furry friend has passed on. It’s easy to see how their relationship grew from shared adventures and laughter—they’ve always found joy in the little moments, even when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Their wedding day kicked off in true Colorado style—with unpredictable weather. Chelsea got ready at the General Palmer Hotel in Durango, sharing moments with mom and dad as they helped her into her dress, while Zach prepped in the hotel lobby, perfecting his tie and jacket for the big day. A first look set the tone for the day, intimate and full of anticipation, before the couple walked the short distance to the train depot to board the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. As the train chugged along the mountains, they said their vows, signed the marriage license, and celebrated with cake and breakfast while small family photos captured the start of their married life. The day’s adventure was only heightened by the weather—shortly after their ceremony, the skies opened up and rain poured down for the rest of the day, adding a dramatic soundtrack to their journey.
Once the train arrived in Silverton, Chelsea and Zach enjoyed lunch with their family, sharing laughter and stories as the rain continued to fall outside. Later, they stopped by a local brewery to grab a drink with friends, soaking in the cozy atmosphere before boarding the train back to Durango. These little moments—eating together, sharing a toast, and capturing a few more photos with their loved ones—made the day feel personal and full of connection.
The following day, what was initially planned as part of their first-day adventure had to be postponed due to severe thunderstorms. But in classic Chelsea-and-Zach fashion, this twist became a blessing in disguise. They spent the second half of their Silverton elopement exploring a 4×4 trail and an alpine lake, capturing photos along the way and enjoying time with their two dogs, Maximus and Bomber, who brought their own brand of energy and love to the day. As the sun began to set and the Milky Way rose, the clear skies offered them the rare and magical chance to see the northern lights all the way down in Silverton—a moment that felt like a reward for all their patience.
Chelsea and Zach’s Silverton elopement was about more than just a ceremony; it was a true reflection of who they are as a couple. They thrive in the outdoors, from hiking and camping to skiing, scuba diving, and riding motorcycles, and their wedding honored that adventurous spirit. They value simplicity, joy, and being present with each other over tradition and expectation. Even through rainstorms and thunder, they found beauty, laughter, and moments they’ll look back on for decades. This wedding wasn’t just a day—it was a two-day celebration of love, resilience, and the kind of shared adventures that make a lifetime feel like the best kind of journey.
