The Bride’s Family Pushed a Wheelchair Up a Mountain So Her Mom Could See Her Say “I Do” | Taylor & Will
Posted On | June 29, 2020

Taylor and Will’s elopement didn’t go quite as planned – it went better. What started as a intimate wedding in Breckenridge slowly evolved into an elopement filled with flexibility, intention, and so much heart. After navigating a global pandemic and ever-changing road closures, they ended up with a celebration near Boulder that felt even more personal, and even more powerful, than they could’ve imagined.
These two go way back – high school bus ride back. Will accidentally tripped Taylor as she stepped off the bus on their very first day of ninth grade. While she initially declined his offer to be his girlfriend (as anyone would after a bus-trip ambush), it only took a few more weeks for friendship to turn into something deeper. Six years later, they were more than ready to say “I do.”
But there was one thing Taylor hoped for above all else: that her mom could be there on her wedding day. Her mom couldn’t walk long distances so needed a wheelchair. Many couples might have seen a rugged mountain elopement as impossible. But not Taylor and Will – and certainly not their family. On the morning of their elopement at Brainard Lake, Taylor’s loved ones pushed her mom’s wheelchair up the quarter-mile road to Red Rock Lake, where the two would exchange vows. It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth it. Her mom watched her daughter get married against a backdrop of still water and trees, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
After the ceremony, Taylor and Will took time for just the two of them. They hiked 2.5 peaceful miles up to Brainard Lake, where the world seemed to pause. Rain clouds had just passed through, and the surface of the lake mirrored the dusky sunset in soft, glowing colors. It was still. It was quiet. It was sacred. They laid out a blanket, shared a book, and just read together – no pressure, no timeline. Just love.
Their day wasn’t about the venue or the timeline or even the photos. It was about being together. It was about intention. It was about family – especially the family that showed up and made it possible for Taylor to have her mom by her side.
